Gosar Demands Answers to Teacher Union Influence on Reopening Schools

WASHINGTON D.C. – Congressman Paul A. Gosar, D.D.S. (AZ-04) issued the following statement in response to allegations that the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) acted politically on behalf of the American Federation of Teachers (AFT) in refusing to reopen America’s schools.

“This week, I joined several of my Republican colleagues and sent a letter to the Director of the CDC demanding answers regarding reports of collusion and political influence between the CDC and the AFT concerning the re-opening of America’s schools following the COVID pandemic.

The CDC was preparing to re-open America’s public schools in February until they received outside political pressure from the AFT that schools remained closed.

Students are largely safe with in-person instruction. Unfortunately, the school union is putting politics ahead of families and students that are anxious to return to the classroom. It’s long past time that schools re-open. Americans deserve answers to these allegations,” concluded Rep. Gosar.
