Gosar Rejects Latest Bill to Fund Proxy War in Ukraine

Washington, D.C., September 28, 2023

Washington, D.C.-- Congressman Paul A. Gosar, D.D.S. (AZ-09), issued the following statement after voting against H.R. 5692, the Ukraine Security Assistance and Oversight Supplemental Appropriations Act, legislation appropriating $300 million for the Ukraine Security Assistance Initiative:

“I have voted against every single bill that funds the proxy war in Ukraine and this latest bill is no different.  I categorically reject it.  The United States has now wasted more than $100 billion footing the bill for a war in which we have no national security interest.

The southern border is under a sustained attack and invasion.  Over eight million illegal aliens have entered the country.   Rather than sending another dime to Ukraine, we should put our country first by increasing the pay of our brave service members right here in the United States.

Our money should be spent defending our own borders instead of engaging in mischief and warmongering and other provocative acts in Ukraine.  If we are going to spend millions of taxpayers’ dollars, it should go to American troops, not foreign soldiers thousands of miles away,” stated Congressman Gosar.

Background:

H.R. 5692 would appropriate $300 million to the Ukraine Security Assistance Initiative. Such funding would remain available for Fiscal Years (FY) 2024 and 2025. This money can be used to provide training, equipment, intelligence support, and help pay the salaries of the Ukrainian military, or other groups helping Ukraine in its war with Russia.
